Illuma Founder and CEO, Milind Borkar, Named to AI 75 List by Dallas Innovates

R&D leader at the intersection of voice biometrics and AI makes the inaugural list for DFW innovators in artificial intelligence for 2024.

Illuma Labs CEO, Milind Borkar, was recognized at the Convergence AI Conference on May 2nd, 2024 for contributions in the field of Artificial Intelligence innovation. This honor was bestowed by local news publication Dallas Innovates, the Dallas Regional Chamber (DRC), and Dallas AI, the largest nonprofit AI professional group in Dallas/Fort Worth. 

Milind Borkar Honored In the “AI Maverick” Category 

Author of 14 technical publications and inventor on 21 patents, Borkar launched over 50 hi-tech products during his career with Texas Instruments prior to founding Illuma Labs in 2016. Here, Milind and his R&D team developed a state-of-the-art platform that leverages voice biometrics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to provide a secure and seamless banking experience in the contact center. 

Milind pointed to the power of collaboration in bringing new technology to market where it can make an impact. “Huge credit goes to our Co-Founder and CTO, Jeremy Whittington. Without him, none of this would be possible. Under his leadership, our team has successfully converted our innovations in voice biometric authentication into products that not only deliver on capability but are incredibly easy for financial institutions of all sizes to operationalize. It’s an honor to be recognized as a pioneer in this field along with so many innovators in DFW and I am excited to see what we can create together in the years ahead.”

Illuma has been most recently recognized as an industry leader in innovation for fraud prevention, including ways to combat the emerging threat of generative AI for “deep fakes” in the form of voice cloning. AI is a tool that is mostly used for positive purposes. However, innovation in this area definitely includes staying ahead of fraudsters and using every resource available to keep banking systems secure.

Dallas/Fort Worth Is an Emerging Hub for Leadership in AI Research

According to Duane Dankesreiter, senior vice president of research and innovation at the Dallas Regional Chamber, “The Dallas region is the fastest-growing high-tech center in the country. We launched the program with Dallas Innovates because we’re truly inspired by the incredible talent we have right here. These brilliant minds are not just working on AI; they’re changing the game and shaping what’s next.”

2024 is the inaugural year for the AI 75 program, which recognizes DFW area visionaries, creators, and influencers. Those that made the list have demonstrated excellence and positive impact on innovation, adoption, societal wellbeing, industry advancement, and the future of technology. The formal unveiling of the 2024 honorees occurred during the opening remarks at the DRC’s Convergence AI event.
